Guide to Creating a Website with Hostgator Hosting with United Nations Domain Name

If you are creating a website using Hostgator web hosting services and your domain name is registered from another domain name registrar, then the first thing that you will do is to change the name servers of your account. This is because Hostgator will not have the capability to change the name servers for you since they do not have access to your account.

If you are using a domain name from United Nations and you are trying to build your website through Hostgator, then this is your guide to creating a website with Hostgator hosting with United Nations domain name. Here, you will find out how to determine the appropriate name servers for your hosting account, learn how to change name servers and other important things.

Determine the Name Servers for your Hosting Account

Before you can actually create your website through Hostgator, you must first modify the name servers for your Hostgator account through the website of United Nations, your domain name registrar. But before you can modify the name servers, you must first determine what your name servers would be for your hosting account. The best way to this is to refer to the welcome email that you will receive from Hostgator the moment that you sign up. Remember that the name server will greatly vary depending on the hosting type and the server type.

If you still are having a hard time figuring out what name servers to use, the best way is to visit the support portal of Hostgator. There, you will find an article that says “What is my name server”. That should serve as your guide in determining what name server to use.

Modifying the Name Servers

After you have determined what your name servers are, then you should be ready to change or modify it through your account with United Domains. Refer below for the instructions.

  • First, sign in to your account at United Domains.
  • Then, click on the tab that says “my domains” so you will be able to view the list of domains for your account.
  • Click that particular domain that you want to be modified or updated.
  • Click the DNS button on the far right and after which, you will be taken to the DNS control panel.
  • Refer to the “set name server/parking section” and then type in the Hostgator name servers in the same way that they are entered on your welcome email from Hostgator.
  • Make sure to fill out the fields completely and click on “save”.

Important Things to Remember

As soon as you are done making the changes on your name servers, right through the registrar of your United Domains account, DNS propagation will soon take place and this could take up to 48 hours. During this time, your email and your website will not be available for you to access. Customers of Hostgator who would like to change their domain name should refer to the control panel interface of their Hostgator account.
